AICHA

Aisha is a Moroccan woman who lives in a village located in the south of Morocco. She had a lovely family, a nice husband and two children. She's an intelligent woman because she was the only educated female in the village. She was lucky because her father broke the rules of the village and sent her to school till she obtained her baccalaureate, after that, he sent her to the town to continue her university studies till she graduated by excellence. Indeed, Aisha is widely known in the village after she had refused to live in the big town Casablanca and decided to carry on her life in the village because of many reasons. First, she wanted to show people that a woman can reach high positions just like man. Second, to be an example of all the girls in the village. Third, to get a job and contribute to development of her village. Aisha was not only an intelligent girl, but also beautiful with long black hair just like silk. What's more, she had very attractive eyes, a beautiful nose and a small mouth. Aisha used to wear modern clothes, that made all men in the village stood against her, because of change of her traditional clothes, a meeting was held by the most important men of the village, "she broke all the conventional rules, and she's going to lead to a women's revolution against us" said the head of the assembly. Another man said: "she talked last time to my wife asking her to let our daughter to go to school, she certainly wants to distort the image of our village, she wants to break our conventional rules and our values we inherited from our ancestors. I think that we should stop her. if we send our daughters to school, it will be a shame on our village". Aisha was constantly threatened by some man of the village openly to the extent that her house was attacked many times at night. There is only one teacher in the village, the primary teacher who was in charged to teach the small number of students who attend school, the school was actually designed for both boys and girls. Yet, it was turned to a single-sex school, because all the villagers generally used to prevent their daughters from going to school, consequently the girls were ignorant and they could not read or write, and this really hurts. Aisha was lucky to learn and study though her father was neglected by the villagers because of his constant disagreement with the villagers concerning girls' education. Hassan, the primary teacher was a long man who was originally born in Rabat, the political capital of Morocco. He was an average looking man who was addicted to reading Arabic poems. He fell in love with Aisha and he asked her for marriage and Aisha immediately expressed her acceptance. First, because he was the most educated man of the village. Second, because she wanted to protect herself, she deeply needed a man to stand by her because she's alone all the time, and women always tried to avoid meeting or talk to her, the husbands are afraid that Aisha affected their wives with her iconoclastic and modern beliefs. Aisha tried to make some friends in the village and break the gates set us around her. She created an association specialized in defending women's rights, and she started to sensitize all the women of the village and try to make them aware of the importance of their daughter's education. Some women thought that it was against Islamic religion. However, Aisha was very intelligent and she tried to teach every woman that the Islamic religion calls for education of all Muslims, man and woman, girls and boys. She informed them that the first verse that was revealed to the prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him was "READ" which means that we have to read and learn from our birth to our death. Moreover, she told them about some sayings of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who glorified the role of woman in society and insisted on education for every one and that education is an obligation and one of their fundamental rights. Women were fascinated by this new information that might be hidden or ignored by their husbands who treated them like slaves, and their daughters like potential slaves whose job is in working in the kitchen only during the day, and satisfying their husbands' sexual desires during the night and eventually giving birth to babies. Aisha used to hold secret meetings with women, she noticed that women gradually learn about their rights as the second half of society. What's more, they started to discover the importance of school for their girls. one year After the association's foundation, Aisha found out in an early morning that their association was attacked by someone, everything was broken. Tables, computers and even books were torn. Her husband tried to conduct his own investigation in the village to find the person who did it but in vain. Her husband Hassan knew that his wife's practices were the reason, and a war has just been declared against the family. So, he tried to convince his wife to stop but in vain, his wife was a strong person, "I won't give up, we just need to be patient. So don't worry my husband" she said to him. Hassan was asking God while praying to protect his wife and assist her to get to her goal, though he was certain it was difficult to attain. It is summer, and Aisha is getting prepared for the new school year. She was ready to send a bunch of girls to school for the first time in the village. Unfortunately, she was warned again and again by the daughters' angry fathers. "Do you want to spoil our girls' domestic education, it's better that the formal education that will lead them to get out at any time they want, and they are going to revolt against their husbands, if they are lucky to get one. All what you are doing is forbidden in our religion and you must go out of our village along with your husband" said one of the daughters' fathers. "Formal education is only for boys and it is Haram (forbidden) for girls. She tried to make use of her persuasive arguments but she failed, the fathers insisted on keeping their daughters at home. Aisha was thinking for a whole month before the first of September, she thought about a trick. She knows that the wedding party is coming soon and all men of the village usually gather at night to dance and sing together in Ahwach, a dancing ceremony. Ahwach attracts all men of the village because each one of them is eager to show to the others that he's the best in dancing. So, Aisha intelligently coordinated with the mothers of girls to hide their daughters in a house that nobody knows about its location and exactly at Ahwach time while men are busy with the wedding party. She convinced the mothers to be patient and help her make their husbands convinced to let their daughters go to school. The mothers agreed on that, so she literally applied what she said, she was a courageous woman. During Ahwach time and while men were dancing and singing, she took all the girls to the house she prepared in advance for the event. She hid them and told them that this will be a welfare for them; the girls didn't know the reason, but they were glad since their mothers agreed on that. Ahwach time was over at about 03:00 am. Some men realized their daughters were gone and some of them did not till the early morning. They started to shout at their wives who were afraid to be divorced by their husbands because of that adventure. They all said to their husbands that Aisha is responsible, "go and talk to her, she will certainly tell you where are you daughters". the very angry man moved to Aisha's house warning her that they are going to call the police if she doesn't reveal their daughter's place. However, Aisha was a strong person, her education and her convictions were strong enough to make her face all the naive men of the village, she told them with a quiet confident voice: "your daughters are sent to one of the biggest towns of Morocco, I won't tell you where exactly, but you have to know that an association will take care of them, and they will educate them till they reach high positions in society, then they are going to come back and judge you all. If you want to call the police do it, I don't care, I'm ready to go to prison. But you have to know that you won't never meet your daughters unless you agree on letting them go to school next week, the first of September" and she added " you might all go to prison yourselves if you call the police because you accept to let very old people to marry your thirteen and fourteen year old girls; they are still minor, and this is against the law, do you think girls are created only for getting married, doing laundry and cooking for their husbands !? don't you think they have dreams they want to realize just like boys !? " they were all fascinated by her challenging voice to the extent that her husband could not utter a single word. All men were sure that Aisha is a serious woman and she can always achieve what she desires, and this was one of her qualities since she was a little child. As a result of this accident, All the fathers held a meeting and they were sure that if they don't agree with Aisha's proposal, and if they call the police, they won't see their daughters again. So they started to agree one by one till they reached a general consensus that they will let their daughters go to school, provided that they wear their scarves, so Aisha immediately agreed upon that. In the afternoon all the families were celebrating the return of their daughters except one person, it was Aisha, as her husband couldn't support or accept that his wife faced all the men of the village, thus, he told her that she must leave his house and she is divorced. He told her "I want to live my life away from troubles, so please go away from me and never come back, you know that I loved you but you are a trouble maker Aisha. You can leave today, and since I love you, you can take the most precious thing with you and please forget about spending your life with me." Hassan said. Aisha asked him to let her prepare for him the last dinner before she leaves at midnight, and Hassan agreed on that immediately. She prepared for him his best meal, it was grilled sausages but mixed with a herb that make the person pass out for two hours. Her husband ate his dinner but he didn't utter one word because he was very angry, and as a result of eating that herb he lost his consciousness. Next, she put her husband in a box and she took him with her to her father's house. She waited for him to wake up, so once her husband woke up, and discovered that he's in a box in his father in law's house, he asked her: "are you crazy? why did you do that !?" she answered, "it is you the responsible, didn't you tell me to take with me the most precious thing while leaving, here you are, you are the most precious thing in my life, you are my supportive husband who loved me and who supported me while facing the whole village" Hassan was fascinated by his wife's intelligence and he started to laugh, "wow, I have never imagined that I will be in a situation like this inside a box, but you know I love you, the parents generally agreed to send their daughters to school and you have to stop facing all the village, and this is my condition because we want to live in peace honey" said Hassan. Indeed, Aisha was an exceptional woman, she retrieved her husband intelligently and she saved her family from the morass of divorce. What's more, all the girls were sent to school along with boys in the first of September and she gradually changed the way the villagers think from the negative to the positive, so she started to work as a French language teacher and she never gave up diffusing knowledge and sensitizing the villagers, especially females about their rights and obligations.
